Petworth HousePetworth House and Park. A magnificent late 17th century house set in 700 acres of beautiful deer park, landscaped by Capability Brown. There is a fine collection of paintings, including works by Van Dyke, Reynolds, Blake and Turner. (Tel: 01798 342207)

Parham House, nr. Pulborough. Set in park land facing a downward panorama, Parham is a classic Elizabethan house built in 1577 and having extensive gables, mullioned windows and interior panelling. There is a unique collection of paintings and tapestries.

Cowdray RuinsCowdray Ruins, Midhurst. This epitome of Tudor architecture, started at the beginning of the 16th century, took more than sixty years to complete - only to be gutted by fire in 1793.

 

Weald and Downland Museum, Singleton. Set in 50 acres, there is a collection of over 40 regional historic buildings - from medieval to Victorian, and including a working Tudor farm. (Tel: 01243 811 348)

Goodwood House, Chichester. The State Apartments of Goodwood House, family home of the Dukes of Richmond, have been dramatically restored to Regency splendour. (Tel: 01243 755040)

Arundel CastleArundel Castle. In this beautiful hillside setting Arundel Castle, home of the Dukes of Norfolk from 1556, guards the gap in the South Downs formed by the River Arun. Its turreted image is mainly Gothic but its origins are pure Norman, evident by the 12th century keep and 13th century Barbican, restored and combined with the main body of the castle.

Bramber and Amberley Castles date back to the early Norman period.

Chichester CathedralChichester Cathedral. 900 years old and the site of the shrine to St. Richard, its treasures range from Romanesque stone carvings to 20th century works of art. (Tel: 01243 782595)
